councilmember leandro baldenegro

Councilmember Leandro Baldenegro is a proud, lifelong resident of Glendale who represents the Ocotillo District with a deep commitment to the community he has always called home. Born and raised in Glendale, Leandro didn’t move here, he grew up here, attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Apollo High School, and later continued his education at Arizona State University.

For 19 years, Councilmember Baldenegro has served the Glendale Elementary School District as its only welder, dedicating his career to maintaining and improving local schools. Beyond his profession, he has mentored students, participated in career days, and worked to inspire young people to pursue meaningful careers.

As a Councilmember, Leandro Baldenegro is known for being hands-on, accessible, and results-driven. He organized the first Ocotillo District community meeting at the Civic Center in over a decade, ensuring residents had a direct voice in their local government. He regularly hosts “Office Hours” before and after City Council meetings, meets with downtown merchants, and has helped countless residents resolve issues through Glendale One.

Councilmember Baldenegro has been a strong advocate for community pride and neighborhood investment. He has sponsored and supported events such as the celebration at Veteranos Park, La Fiesta de Glendale, and the inaugural 623 Day—helping secure a mayoral proclamation to recognize the community. He has also contributed to beautification efforts, including helping plant over 50 trees at O’Neil Park and improving public spaces throughout the district.

A champion for education and youth, he has supported the booster club at Glendale High School, sponsored the planting of large shade trees on campus, and donated to teacher-focused charities through major community events like the Fiesta Bowl. He has also attended police and fire graduations, military induction ceremonies for hundreds of local students, and retirement events honoring first responders.

Understanding the needs of local businesses, Councilmember Baldenegro has worked closely with downtown merchants organizing meetings and even sponsoring a shuttle service to help visitors safely navigate the area during the summer heat. He has also collaborated with organizations like Salt River Project, APS, Southwest Gas, and Cox Communications to connect residents with programs that help lower costs and improve quality of life.

Leandro has consistently shown up for the community, visiting seniors at the community center, attending ribbon cuttings and grand openings, supporting local churches, and engaging with all residents, including the cruising community, to ensure public safety while respecting Glendale’s culture.

Grounded in transparency, service, and accountability, Councilmember Leandro Baldenegro is committed to putting the Ocotillo District first delivering real results and continuing to build a stronger, more connected Glendale for everyone.
